Afternoon: The Benedictine Monks and their famous spirit
Fécamp Abbaye, near Etretat, is supposed to hold a relic of the Holy Blood. It was protected by the Benedictine monks, directly connected to the Vatican, from the 11th century to the French revolution.
In 1510, one of these monks created a sour liquor, made of 28 herbs and spices, that was used as a medicinal pain killer. Its recipe disappeared when the monks left France before 1789.
But during the 19th century, Alexandre Le Grand, a famous wine merchant from Fécamp, found the original recipe in a hidden manuscript ...
